What is Manufacturing Process?

Manufacturing Process, Manufacturing Process: How Does It Work? The manufacturing procedure is a methodology concerning a broad number of disciplines and expertise on machinery, tools, and equipment. It involves combining supplies to create a new business product, and thereby, it cannot be disassembled. Manufacturing process flow pursuits must be receptive to several needs and developments. Mostly, finished products undergo several processes that include diverse production methods in shaping the existing raw materials. If you’re planning to have a manufacturing production, you should know the different manufacturing processes. Let’s take a look at the five basic manufacturing methods below!

Types of Manufacturing Process

1.Discrete

The discrete process is a highly diverse environment that produces distinct items, requiring frequent setups and changeovers. Furniture, toys, smartphones, and airplanes are examples of discrete manufacturing products. As you can see, products are easily identifiable and differ significantly. This method is also capable of breaking down its constituent parts again after large assemblage.

2.Repetitive

This method is about having dedicated production lines that turn out the same item, or a closely related family. Usually, companies produce family products 24/7 all year long. From the word itself, it’s repetitive. However, the speed is adjusted per market demand. Compared to other manufacturing process flow, this process requires minimal changeover or setup. Modern facilities where products are produced through a repetitive process using automated manufacturing technologies, which lead to reduced production costs.

3.Job shops

The job shop process involves manufacturing small batches of a variety of custom products. It may assemble only one version of a product, a dozen versions, or even a couple dozen versions of it for one customer at a time. Therefore, fewer machines are required to manufacture a wide variety of products. Products here have different manufacturing process design, operation sequences, and time for each could vary significantly. If demand rises, the operation is eventually turned into a discrete line and is replaced by automated equipment.

4.Batch

Sometimes batch process is the only key to meet the ongoing demand of the consumers. This method is analogous to a job shop and discrete. Before producing a particular product, each batch is analyzed to turn out a final product based on its requirements. In some cases, it can be continuous, making one batch after another of the same product.

5.Continuous

As the name says, it’s a 24/7 process. The continuous manufacturing processes are where production materials are used in a constant process. This manufacturing environment describes that a product comes out without interruption and not in groups(batch). Mostly, the production materials here are gases, liquids, powders, or slurries.
